About Pat & Time Travelers
With many of the existing "Keepers of Time" now in their 70s and 80s, combined with the lack of a new generation stepping up to carry on "the craft," owner Pat Kluthe brings his talent and energy to the Horology industry.
As a child growing up in Illinois, curious about how things worked, Pat would dismantle and reassemble everything from jigsaw puzzles to old fans. While serving in the Army, Pat trained as a Multichannel Communicator Operator, a job requiring a sensitive touch and extensive knowledge. He then moved on to work in varied professions requiring similar skills.
With his diversified professional experience combined with years of studying clock repair through multiple sources, Pat Kluthe provides a new perspective to Horology. Since opening his business January 2015 a growing reputation for quality work and refreshing vision has brought Time Travelers national notice, with visitors and clocks from Chicago, California, Missouri, Arkansas, South Dakota, Colorado, Kansas and New Mexico so far...
What is horology?
Horology is the art or science of measuring time. Clocks, watches, clockwork, sundials, hourglasses, clepsydras, timers, time recorders, marine chronometers, and atomic clocks are all examples of instruments used to measure time. In current usage, horology refers mainly to the study of mechanical time-keeping devices, while chronometry more broadly includes electronic devices that have largely supplanted mechanical clocks for the best accuracy and precision in time-keeping.
People interested in horology are called horologists. That term is used both by people who deal professionally with timekeeping apparatus (watchmakers, clockmakers), as well as aficionados and scholars of horology. Horology and horologists have numerous organizations, both professional associations, and more scholarly societies.
